As we begin to learn new words we need to be exposed to a variety of different words. This includes names, descriptive words, verbs and location words. When we have a depth of vocabulary we need this information to be well organised. Children with normally developing language naturally build up layers of meaning for the new words they learn. They are able to understand the links and differences between semantic concepts such as synonyms, antonyms, homonyms and categories.
However, some children need our support to develop these connections. This resource presents a fun way to learn such connections. Print the discs and laminate for durability before cutting . them out.
Purchase some paper cups. If you want to use the trophies buy. cups which that are opaque. Place the circles on top of the cups. When a connection or pair is found the cups are stacked. You can also place trophies under the cups for an extra surprise. I have put numbers on the trophies which can be added for points.
