Compound words are fun to teach, and kids are fascinated by them. Making new words is so much fun. I use compound words early in my phonemic awareness therapy. They are a great way to build beginning segmentation skills as well as blending skills. Use the initial set of cards to build understanding of compound words before working towards generation.
