Description
Syllable awareness is one component of phonological awareness. When students have a well-developed phonological awareness they generally learn to read with more success. This pack contains a range of activities to develop this knowledge. The first activities target segmentation of compound words. Students can then move on to words with more syllables and syllables which are not real words. There are multiple activities targeting the segmentation of syllables ranging from two syllables through to 5 syllables.
For more flexibility, there are word lists for multi-syllable words (2 syllables through to 5 syllables) as well as a list for initial and final syllable deletion. There is scope within the activities for them to progress from an auditory activity which is generally mastered first to one which uses letters.
All activities are presented in color and black and white. Just Print and GO!
